The Barn was built in 1896. For many years it was, well, a barn. Then in 1920, Congress enacted the 18th amendment (known as the Volstead Act) and outlawed alcohol, starting Prohibition (known as the Noble Experiment. Guess how the experiment turned out). President Woodrow Wilson tried to veto but was overridden. And still no one has named a cocktail after him. Sad. Anyway, the barn was then turned into a speakeasy (seriously) and flourished as such until 1933 when the 21st amendment repealed the 18th amendment. So that was a pretty good use of a couple amendments. From 1933 until 2003 the barn was used as an artist's studio, a flophouse and, well, a barn. In 2003 two intrepid young men decided to turn it into a production house and the barn became the Barn. It now houses four editing bays, a sound booth and mixing studio, a lot of computers, a green screen, a pool table, a shuffleboard table, some desks, a lot of snacks and a dog. |
